BERAKAS, Saturday, 10 November. – Department of Information, Prime Minister's Office received a visit from participants of the 45th Southeast Asia and Japan Youth Ship Programme (SSEAYP) at the Auditorium, Department of Information's Extension Building.
The entourage is welcome by the information officers and staff of the department along with several officers and staff who had participated in the youth ship (ex-SSEAYP).
The purpose of the visit is to gain knowledge on the role, function and mechanism of the Department of Information in disseminating information and understanding the current social media impact on information.
The entourage led by Mr. Yamatani Hideyuki was consisted of 42 participants from ASEAN and Japan and programme coordinators.
During the visit, a briefing was presented by Assistant Information Officer, Awang Mohammad Nur Akram bin Noraini @ Bahrin. The briefing among others includes a brief introduction on background of Brunei Darussalam; the vision, mission, objectives and three information strategies of Department of Information in delivering information about the government to the citizens of the country by conducting face-to-face communication, distribution or dissemination of published materials and media relations with the mass media platforms or social media.
Participants also had the opportunity to watch PENTARAMA performance - a sketch of the drama 'Prayer Saviour of the World and Akhirat (afterworld)', which was performed by the staff of the Department of Information. In addition, they also have the opportunity to witness the sales of the department's publications..
The visit is continued to Brunei Pelita Division, Information Reference Centre and Publication and Graphic Arts Division.
Among the functions of Pelita Brunei Division is to perform news coverage such as on the events attended the royal family within and outside the country and also local events; delivering information, activities, government policies to the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam including to the rural area.
The Information Reference Centre functions as a centre for storing documents as well as reference for the use of officers and staff; and provide services, references and research to the public, especially researchers and students. Meanwhile the Publication and Graphic Arts Division publishes and layout department publications.
