Raise awareness, knowledge about ASEAN

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Saturday, April 7. - The Department of Information through the International Affairs Unit as the Secretariat for the Sub-Committee on Information ASEAN-COCI continued the 'Get To Know ASEAN' Roadshow  series at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Arabic Religious Secondary School for Girls Hall, Katok.

Present as guest of honour was the principal of the school, Dayang Hajah Rusidah binti Haji Talip.

Also present were officers and staff from the International Affairs Unit, Department of Information, teachers and over 1,021 students of Year 7, 8 and 9 of the school.

Briefing on ASEAN was presented by Information Officer, Head of International Affairs Unit, Dayang Mufidah binti Abdul Hakim as Secretary for Sub-Committee on Information.

The roadshow seeks to expose and disseminate information related to ASEAN to school students in this country as they are the youths who play a vital role in catalysing the country in colouring the pattern of civilisation of the nation, to form a future generation.

It is also intended to raise the awareness and knowledge of school children on ASEAN, as well as to identify the extent to which students are aware of ASEAN by instilling awareness and sense of belonging among school children as an ASEAN community, in line with the ASEAN motto, 'One Vision, One Identity, One Community '.

The briefing also featured information on Vision 2035, in line with the comparative statistics of Brunei Darussalam in the regional arena.

The knowledge must be known by the students to raise awareness about the development of the country at the regional level and to be a source of encouragement for them to become more determined to develop the country so that Vision 2035 can be realised.

The honorary guest presented a prize to 10 students who successfully answered the ASEAN Quiz.

The programme is part of the department ongoing efforts in inspiring patriotism and unity among students, in equally appreciating the function and purpose of ASEAN establishment.

In addition, it is also to strengthen the department relationship with the community, especially students in this country.
