RRP instills civic awareness, nationhood spirit

GADONG, Thursday, 22 November. - The Department of Information through the Nationhood Unit, Nationhood and Community Division held the 'Rakan Remaja Penerangan' (RRP) Programme at Rimba Secondary School 1 (Sekolah Menengah Rimba 1).
Present as guest of honour was the Head of Academic Programme, Department of Schools, Ministry of Education, Dayang Sarimah binti Abu Bakar.
The ceremony began with a photo session, followed by National Anthem 'Allah Peliharakan Sultan'; patriotic song, 'Bendera Negara' and the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat.
The RRP programme attended by more than 90 students of Year 9 and 10 of the school. The programme includes nationhood briefing titled 'Our Sovereign, Appreciating the Flag and National Anthem of Brunei Darussalam' presented by Assistant Information Officer, Nationhood Unit, Nationhood and Community Division, Awang Mohammad Nurakram bin Noraini @ Bahrin.
The itinerary of the programme included a video clip titled 'Hoisting the National Flag With Pride'; traditional dance and poem declamation from the students; singing performance from Department of Information and also jokes and Nationhood Quiz are presented by local comedians. Nationhood Quiz prizes was presented by the guest of honour.
The programme were also attended by the Principal of the school, Haji Malai Shah Erin bin Syed Haji Yussof, Deputy Principals and teachers.
The RRP programme is intended to disseminate information and current activities specifically for teenagers as well as approaching teens in schools to be aware of the developments and affairs surrounding them. It also aim to instil the spirit of nationhood and social responsibility, and making students as an agent in dissemination positive information effectively to the peer.
In addition, the programme also provide civic consciousness and nationhood spirit especially to adolescents towards the development of positive mind and morals, while at the same time reaching out to youths and teenagers in schools through entertainment that is directional and guided.
Besides the RRP Programme, the Department of Information through the Nationhood Unit is continuously organising the Nationhood Briefing Programme to government and private secondary schools and also Arabic secondary schools nationwide specifically for Years 9 and 10. This unit is also actively involved in Post-graduate Civic Village Programme for local and overseas graduates that still looking for work.
